Hello! I am Sophie, the founder of Simple Hikes! I am 15 years old and I live in Kentucky. Hiking has always been a passion of mine! My parents have been teaching me the importance of hiking ever since I went on my first hike, probably around the time I learned to walk! I really fell in love with hiking and everything that comes with it, when my family and I went on a trip to the North East and we hiked Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park. That hike and everyone that has followed has been breathtaking and has always put me in a better mental state! I might be biased, but I believe hiking is definitely the best hobby anyone can have! I hope you enjoy reading my blog posts as much as I love hiking!

Here is my number 1 hiking companion, who also doubles as my dad, John. Anyone who knows my dad, would tell you that he has many passions including training and learning about all animals (especially dogs), gardening (also known as trying to turn our 5 acres into a fully-efficient self-sustaining homestead), and believe it or not "van life." Though I would say his top 3 passions are caring and providing for his family and friends, doing his best in everything he does, and last but not least going on adventures and making memories with everyone he loves! All of these qualities make my dad the best father as well as a hiking companion, so much so that I kind of feel bad that he is only my sister and I's father! Follow along with my blog posts if you'd like to hear more funny stories that come with hiking with my dad!

This is Margot, a 2 1/2-year-old Belgian Malinois and search and rescue K9 in training! Margot is ALWAYS, and I mean always, is up for an adventure, it's almost like she never even sleeps. Margot is also the happiest dog you will ever meet and when she sees anyone she has ever met before, she is overwhelmed with excitement, which tends to boost everyone's confidence. Please read our upcoming blog posts, if you'd like to see cute and sometimes crazy pictures of SAR K9 Margot!

Meet Scout, a 7-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback that prefers to sleep most of the day. When you catch Scout in a good mood she can one of the best dogs to take hiking, as long as the hike is not too long and rigorous! Anyone who has met Scout would tell you that she can be the goofiest and sometimes awkward dog. Besides her weird side, Scout has one of the sweetest hearts and when she is awake she will be right by your side! Make sure to visit us again to hear more stories from Scouts' little hiking adventures!

Here is Ava, our 14-year-old Pitt-Lab mix. Ava was rescued from a local shelter 12 years ago when she was around 2. She is one of the most loyal, caring, and sweetest dog you would ever meet. Though with her age she has developed what we think she believes is "elder privileges" but it is all our fault for giving in. She has been a part of my life for longer than I can remember. When she was younger we took her on much longer and adventurous hikes, but unfortunately, now she will have to sit out for most of those. Since she can't go on the longer hikes, make sure to check back in again with us to see in our much shorter, easier hikes!
